How Do AIO Cloth Diapers Work?

As you begin to dip your toes into the world of cloth diapers, some people start to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choices. But using all in one cloth diapers right off the bat is a great first option. Cloth diapering is easier than it looks, and AIO diapers are the easiest way to jump in. The all in one cloth diapers feature an absorbent inner that is sewn to a waterproof outer layer to function as one unit. Having this system gets the job done without the need for additional inserts or accessories. While all in two diapers and pocket diapers use cloth diaper inserts for their absorbency, all in one diapers have that absorbency built right in. However, AIO cloth diapers can also be paired with flat diapers, prefold diapers or cloth diaper inserts if you need some extra absorbency.

How to Wash AIO Diapers

Washing all in one diapers is pretty simple. You can go to our directions here for washing cloth diapers, but the short answer is that get any solids out of the AIO diaper, then run the diapers through a rinse cycle followed by a normal wash cycle. There are some various options in terms of detergents for AIO cloth diapers, but we have seen great success using Tide Original Powdered Detergent. Follow this up with one more rinse cycle, then tumble dry on low or hang our all in ones to dry. For convenience, you can store soiled AIO diapers in a wet bag that is slightly open, to ensure adequate air flow, until you’re ready to wash.

step 1

Step One: Remove solids from Cloth Diapers. Remove any snapped in or stuffed absorbency materials.

step 2

Step Two: Run a rinse cycle on cold before the main wash.

step 3

Step Three: Run a full cycle wash on warm/hot with additive-free detergent.

Advantages and Disadvantages of All In One Diapers

Disadvantages of AIO Diapers

Cloth all in one diapers may take longer to dry than other cloth diapers. This is simply because they’re made of many layers of absorbent fabric, so it takes longer for them to completely dry. In addition, of all the cloth diapers, all in one diapers are usually among the more expensive options. If you’re cloth diapering on a budget, they might not be the right choice for you. Since all in two diapers and diaper covers can all be used multiple times with new liners, you’ll need to buy more all in one diapers since you will be changing the entire system once soiled.

Advantages of AIO Diapers

Many parents see the appeal of incorporating all in one cloth diapers into their daily routine when they look at the environmental impact of disposable diapers. All in one diapers are a great option when trying to compromise between saving money over disposables, but still being as convenient as possible. The all in one diapers are very easy to use. Since these diapers are sewn together to create one-piece, there is no need to rely on separate covers or inserts. The material remains attached, meaning there is no need for extra pinning or stuffing. Plus, they come in all kinds of cute colors and patterns. When the AIO diaper gets soiled, you simply toss it in the diaper pail and you are good to go!

All in one Diaper VS All in two Diaper

All in Two VS. All in One

When buying all in one cloth diapers, another common option is their all-in-two counterpart. All in two cloth diapers come in two pieces, hence the name. They feature covers and inserts, similar to diaper covers. However, their insert typically snaps in on the inside of the diaper itself rather than being an entirely separate product. All in twos are a slightly more complicated option, but nothing too difficult. They’re also usually a more low-cost solution compared to AIO diapers. With AI2, the cover and insert are separate. This means, you can re-use the cover three to four times before laundering if you wipe the inside clean before adding a new absorbent layer. However, AIO diapers offer unparalleled convenience and simplicity. Both are practical products for day-to-day use.
