Are we there yet?
How many times have you heard this on your last trip?
Even if it was just to the grocery store?
How many disposable products did you use?
Were you conscious of your environmental impact?
As we do as much as we can at home to be eco-friendly we all can and need to do better on the go.
15 Eco Friendly Ways You Can Save the Planet on the Go
1. Use Reusable Water Bottles
Over the years the most valuable thing (at least for this specific topic) that I’ve learned is that packing a million different bottles is more work (and dishes) than it’s worth.
This led to us having a 32oz and a 64oz Insulated Klean Kanteens for outings.
Sometimes we need one - other times we both.
Either way, everyone can stay hydrated without the need to stop for water bottles making us even more eco friendly!
2. Pack Snacks
Not only is this cheaper, but like a larger water bottle, you can pack an entire bag of popcorn in a medium Planet Wise wet bag!
Did you know that those are actually food safe?!
If you are planning smaller snacks or need to pre-portion Planet Wise Leak-Proof or Planet Wise Snack or Sandwich Bagsare the perfect solution for snacking and packing.
Not only will the Planet Wise Snack Bags look cool but they are also an amazing eco friendly option for you to use on the go!
3. Recycle (and Compost)
How do you do this on the go??
When you can’t find a recycling bin anywhere??
Be prepared!
Keep a wet bag or two in your car.
Most brands have a snap-able handle that will allow you to attach it to a headrest - keeping everything neat, organized, and is space-saving.
When you’ve returned home or reached a destination where you can recycle simply empty out the bag and continue to reuse it.
Boom. Eco Friendly recycling on the go!
4. Check your car!
This should be a no-brainer, but how often do we really check our air filters? Tires? Likely, not often enough.
A dirty air filter or tires that aren’t fully inflated can significantly reduce your fuel efficiency - costing you more money and being increasing your overall footprint.
5. Reduce your Waste
We have ZERO paper waste in our home.
Yes, zero.
No paper towels, napkins, feminine hygiene products- nada.
Packing your own cloth napkins for even the smallest trips is an eco friendly way to wipe boogies and clean up small messes.
6. Plan your Meals
There is some leg work involved here, but planning meals in advance will help you minimize food waste.
If it’s a short trip, consider eating at home first or packing a snack.
7. Plan your Route
Gone are the days of printing out directions and looking at different routes on mapquest - or if you’re old like me looking at actual maps.
While navigational apps are great, be sure to give every stop you plan on making a look through before you go.
You may notice a shorter, more eco friendly route!
8. Pace Yourself
Do you have a lead foot? Guilty….
Unfortunately, when you speed up you’re reducing your fuel economy.
Travel a little slower, enjoy your surroundings.

9. Skip the Straws
Well, not entirely, but rather - pack your own eco friendly straws.
We are a Klean Kanteen Family and love how easily this clean-up due to the removable silicone and short heights of the stainless steel.
Throw a bunch into a travel wet bag and you’re set.
10. Take only pictures, leave only footprints
If you have ever been to summer camp you’ve probably had this drilled into your head.
When you’re enjoying the great outdoors it’s best to leave everything undisturbed.
Many areas are ecologically fragile and small changes can have large devastating effects on the environment.
11. Don’t Litter
No one likes a litterbug. No one.
Not just your actual trash and recyclable, but EVERYTHING.
Gum, apple cores, fruit peels, and whatever else may be biodegradable.
Remember - take only pictures, leave only footprints.
12. Pick Up Litter
I hereby challenge you to pick up some litter the next time you’re out.
What if everyone picked up three pieces of trash today?
Everyday???
Each and every one of us can make this easy eco friendly difference.
13. Go Solar
Disposable batteries produce a lot of waste.
Go rechargeable or solar.
Not using anything outside of your cell phone or tablet?
Consider an eco friendly solar charger to power up your electronics!
There are even some that will attach directly to your stroller!
14. Have Campfires Responsibly
The next time you’re camping ask your self “Should I build a campfire?”
Campfires can cause lasting impacts on the environment.
Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small, simple, and clean.
15. Offset Your Carbon Footprint
No matter what we do, we will inevitably leave our mark on the environment. Consider offsetting your carbon footprint.
A carbon offset is a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases made to compensate for emissions made elsewhere.
Many eco friendly initiatives accept donations and in return-plant trees in your name and offset your carbon emissions.
Conclusion - 15 Eco Friendly Ways You Can Save the Planet On the Go
We may not be perfect like Captain Planet (I’m really showing my age here), but we can all be more eco friendly without really trying.
Simple, small changes over time will save the planet. If you can’t change something entirely - change it a little bit.
Don’t overwhelm yourself.
An easy way to start is to switch over to reusable water bottles or coffee cups.
They come in insulated styles to keep your beverages hot or cold all day long!
