Flat Cloth Diapers

Often called “flats” this diaper is a single layer of absorbent fabric that is meant to be folded inside a waterproof cloth diaper cover or stuffed inside a pocket diaper.

Flat cloth diapers are one-size-fits-all because they can be folded and customized to a baby of any size. They are not waterproof and need a diaper cover overtop to keep from leaking. 

Flat Diapers are good for anyone who wants to cloth diaper on a budget, as they are the most economical option!

Many families also choose to use flats because they are made from natural cloth fibers, such as hemp, bamboo and cotton.

Flats are very absorbent, so they are great for nighttime and babies who out-pee their diapers. If you have trouble with leaks, flat diapers are certainly for you!

The Flat Diaper system is very simple - all you need are flats for the absorbent part, and a diaper cover overtop to provide waterproofing!

You also will need a diaper fastener to hold the flats together after folding them. 

Muslin is a lightweight and breathable material. The fabric is made of a loose weave of cotton fibers. Therefore, muslin flats are made from 100% natural cotton.

Muslin is a very absorbent material. We give it a rating of Heavy Absorbency - which is usually sufficient absorbency for even the most hydrated baby!

Birds Eye Bamboo is a fabric that is made from bamboo and cotton blend. This fabric is made of a repetitive woven pattern that resembles diamonds, or more commonly thought, the eye of a bird.

These diamond pockets lock onto moisture. Bamboo is a very absorbent material.

We give it a rating of Heavy Absorbency, which is usually sufficient absorbency for even the most hydrated baby!

Birdseye Cotton is a fabric that is made from 100% cotton. This fabric is made from a repetitive woven pattern that resembles diamonds, or more commonly thought, the eye of a bird.

These diamond pockets lock onto moisture.

Before you use your flat diapers, you need to prep them. Natural Fibers are treated a little differently than synthetic and they need more prep time to get to their full absorbency powers!

Therefore, we recommend washing your flats 3-5 times with detergent and drying in between to maximize absorbency.

Natural fibers will become more absorbent over time. If you prefer to use them after one wash, you will need to change the diaper sooner or add in additional absorbency.

You can simply throw your new products in the wash with your normal laundry or diaper laundry. We recommend you do not use fabric softener or bleach on any cloth diaper products.

If you have flats with Organic fibers keep in mind that although are indeed a natural fiber, because they contain more natural oils, they will beed to prepped upwards of 6 times in the same fashion.

The washing and care of flat diapers is pretty easy and straight forward! Our recommendation is below.

• Remove the flat from the diaper cover before washing
  
• Remove solids your preferred way: Knock solids into toilet, Dunk n’ Swish, use a diaper sprayer, or diaper liner to help
• Run a rinse cycle on cold
• Run a full cycle wash on warm/hot with additive-free detergent. We recommend the use of Tide detergent. Do not use detergents with added softeners or stain removers
  
• For best results, run one more rinse cycle on warm/cold
• Line dry or tumble dry or on low/medium heat
