It's FINALLY HERE! Every year, Earth Day brings together over one billion people and has become a huge turning point in the global conversation on environmental sustainability.
Earth Day is one of my personal favorite holidays and for good reason! Between the world coming together to combat pollution, global warming, and one of the biggest sales of the year? YES, PLEASE!
What are you going to do this year to celebrate Earth Day?
What is Earth Day
Earth Day, the annual event on April 22nd is to celebrate the earth’s environment and raise public awareness around pollution.
Worldwide- conferences, outdoor activities, service projects, and other movements take place.
The History of Earth Day
There was an increased consciousness of environmental issues by Americans in the late 1960s, and influential environmentalist and U.S. senator Gaylord Nelson attempted to galvanize the green movement by creating a nationwide celebration.
The first-ever Earth Day was celebrated in 1970.
Denis Hayes arranged a world Earth Day in 1990, which was attended by more than 200 million people from over 140 countries.
Since then, Earth Day has grown to include people from all over the world. Earth Day's many events by the early twenty-first century included raising awareness about a variety of growing environmental issues, including the challenge of global warming and the need for clean renewable energy sources.
When the millennium arrived, Hayes decided to lead another initiative, this time focusing on global warming and a drive for renewable energy.
Earth Day 2000 was built both national and local conversations, using the influence of the Internet to mobilize activists all over the world, with 5,000 environmental organizations reaching out to hundreds of millions of people in a record 184 countries.
