Cloth Diaper Mom Spotlight - Brittany

Welcome everyone to another edition of the Nicki’s Diapers Podcast, and on today's episode, Wendy spotlights a cloth diapering mom!

Whether you’re a newbie to cloth diapering, still on the fence, or an avid cloth diaperer, you don’t want to miss this.

Brittany’s kids range from 10 months to 14 years, but she only recently got started cloth diapering with the arrival of her most recent child, Beckley, although her 3 year old does wear overnight trainers.

Her interest in cloth diapering started once she began to more fully understand the impact disposable diapers were having on the environment.

She thought switching to cloth diapers would be an interesting new challenge for her and so with the birth of her fourth child she jumped in head first.

She remarks on how much the Nicki’s Diapers community helped her to ease naturally into the cloth diaper industry as well as continue to learn more about the benefits of cloth diapering.

She also had Betsy, a local cloth diapering guru from the Breastfeeding Center in Massillon, Ohio that she turned to for support and advice.

Getting her husband on board wasn’t without some hesitations, but because most of the childcare responsibilities fell on her she was allowed to make much of the parental decisions.

He said he would promise he would try, but he may not be perfect. She soon turned to friends for support and discovered many of her friends unbeknownst to her were also either cloth diapering or eager to learn more about cloth diapering.

Brittany’s exploration into cloth diapering was without its challenges, many with were figuring out the correct sizing and being afraid that she would make the diapers too tight and cause discomfort of pain, but she quickly realized this wasn’t quite possible and only an unfounded fear of hers.

Other challenges - or maybe more so an inconvenience - include folding and stuffing the cloth diapers.

She admits that being a 100%, all-in cloth diapering mom is not practical to her lifestyle, especially when traveling and when incorporating child care, but that is why she advises to always do cloth diapering your own way and not to get bogged down in all the conflicting advice and what the naysayers have to say.

So with that, I hope you will enjoy this episode of The Nicki’s Diaper’s Podcast.
